Micah Challenge cake on politician Maxine McKew MP's website

The Micah Challenge 'Survive Past 5' Party was a local event which aimed to raise awareness of high child mortality rates around the world and to challenge action to reduce these deaths by two-third.
Part of the event was a 'bake-off' with the following criterias:
- must contain at least 3 fair trade ingredients
- must incorporate the themes of child and maternal health and the goal of seeing more children survive past the age of 5.

Jo's Africa Water Well cake won first prize. The three fair trade ingredients used were dark chocolate, raw sugar, and coffee. The prize was presented by politician Maxine McKew MP.

For more images of the cake, see the Cupcake Gallery blog.

Dooral Roundup publication

An article about Pacific Hills Christian School student Simone Soliman who took out first place in the year 4 category of the Glenorie Bakery Cupcake bake-off. Students from Pacific Hills junior school (where I was teaching part time in 2008) was encouraged to enter the bake-off. To inspire them, I ran cupcake decorating workshops during lunch for kids who were interested. The response was so great that teachers had to select only 2 kids from each class to attend the workshop! Simone was one of them. Running workshops at school was a great way of combining my two passions - teaching and cake decorating.
